Champions to promote key work being done across Vale

A  new group of champions have been appointed to help highlight work being done by Vale of White Horse District Council in key areas.

Over the next few weeks we’ll be introducing them to you and this week we want to focus on the champions for  the cost of living crisis and food and farming in the Vale.

Councillor James Cox is the cost of living champion and will work to promote the support and advice being offered by the council for those struggling in the face of soaring prices. He will be visiting different organisations across the Vale who are helping residents with advice and support during difficult times.

We have a number of grants available as well as food support and can also point people towards help provided by our partners across the county.

Cllr Cox said: “I know how much people are struggling with rising inflation and high prices so I’m determined to ensure those who may need some help are given the assistance and advice they need.”

With food prices so high, the state of our farming industry is more important than ever. Councillor Paul Barrow is the food and farming champion and will focus on the work being done by the district’s farmers and food producers.

He will help support our farming communities, listening and learning from them, to promote innovation in food production and distribution, and to encourage us all to take a second look at what makes it onto our fork.

Cllr Barrow said: “The rural economy is a vital part of our district and I’m proud to be able to champion the brilliant farmers and food producers on our doorstep.”
