Public Spaces Protection Orders
A Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) is a tool (brought in under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014) which can be used to stop individuals or groups committing anti-social behaviour (ASB) in public places. It can prevent specific activities and behaviours within designated areas and is usually enforced by the Police. It is important that any orders are used proportionately and where there is a clear need for them.
A PSPO was in place in Abingdon from August 2017 for a three year period to tackle alcohol related ASB and ASB related to vehicle noise nuisance. Following a review of the order during spring 2020 involving the police and other key stakeholders, the council identified that there was no longer a need for the order and it therefore expired.
